Dear Parents,

I am pleased to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and to welcome your child to my class.  This is my sixth year at Holy Family School, and I am excited to begin another school year.  A good learning experience is built on a cooperative effort among parent, child, and teacher.  I look forward to the work and growth we will all accomplish this year.

My expectations for conduct and academic standards are high.  Therefore, the classroom behavioral rules and Homework guidelines are as follows:

  Classroom Rules

1. Treat everyone with courtesy and respect.
2. Follow the directions the first time they are given.
3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
4. Complete all assignments neatly and on time.

Homework has a definite place in the educational process.  It is an extension of the learning experience children have during the instructional day.  Homework is designed to aid the students in achieving classroom and school goals.

Homework (as stated from the policy book for 2006-2007)

• Homework assignments are the responsibility of the student and must be completed on the day they are due.
• Grade 8 History and Grade 8 Math classes will receive a Notice of Concern for homework not turned in at the proper time.  10 points will also be deducted from that assignment. 
• If there is a legitimate reason why students cannot complete assignments, parents are asked to send a note explaining this situation.  Arrangements are then made by the student with the teacher for completion of the assignment.  Phone calls may not be made for forgotten homework.

Tests

• A test will be given at the end of each chapter for all classes.  Each test is worth 3 grades for the quarter.  We will review together as a class before each test is given.

American History and Pre-Algebra classes use weighted scales.  See the following information to figure grades using a weighted scale (all information is from Fast Direct):
